Choose your system voltage
Your inverter and batteries must share one nominal voltage. Higher voltage means less current β so thinner, cheaper, safer wiring at the same power.
Which voltage should I choose? +
Rule of thumb: the higher your continuous power, the higher the voltage you want. Watts = volts Γ amps, so at a fixed wattage a higher voltage pulls fewer amps β and amps are what force you into thick, expensive copper and big fuses.
- 12V β simplest and cheapest to start. Best under ~2,000W (fridge, lights, fans, charging). The go-to for RVs, vans and boats.
- 24V β the sweet spot for 2,000β3,000W. Half the current of 12V, so cheaper wiring and less loss. Great for bigger vans and cabins.
- 48V β the standard for whole-home and large off-grid. Lowest current, best efficiency, and server-rack batteries give the cheapest $/kWh at scale.
